Lovely to read your unfolding experiences over in the Cayman Islands Jo, and your thoughtful perspectives on ASD. I haven't seen that diagram of the Autistic spectrum before, but it's helpful 😊
And I’m glad it’s helpful- This is just one of a number of similar diagrams - I like it because it shows there’s a lot of diversity within the diagnosis, and it’s more of a profile of skills than a linear scale of more and less autistic, which is often described but can be misleading.
Hi Jo, I love reading your weekly ponderings and thoughts. And this one was particularly interesting since my granddaughter has been diagnosed with autism, and I know the endless difficulties my daughter went through to get her a diagnosis. And even then the support is very patchy. Scarey to think KB is likely to be the next Tory leader! Anyway, keep up the weekly articles and keep rescuing the poor wee beasties from the swimming pool! I’m sorry to hear the journey has been so difficult for your granddaughter and daughter. I don’t have an easy relationship with the idea of diagnoses, but the whole point of them surely, is to identify the specific needs of people and aim to support them, otherwise why are we bothering?! I don’t really want the labels for people, I want good lives.
This week’s beastie was a big pale moth. I found two, and happily the second was still alive 🥰

I love this and will be looking to read your previous posts ❤️
Thank you Gemma, that means a lot X
